In the Heart of Nerja
If you visit Nerja (on the Costa del Sol, Málaga), there are several “must-see” sites, a mix of natural wonders, historic monuments, beaches and charming streets.
Here’s a rundown of the most important ones.
These caves are one of Spain’s major tourist attractions: a long complex of natural caverns, with spectacular stalactites/-mites, underground chambers, and famously prehistoric cave art.
Balcón de Europa, this cliff-top lookout and promenade is widely considered the symbol of Nerja, offering panoramic views of the Mediterranean, the coastline, and nearby beaches.
The plaza and surrounding pedestrian streets (bars, restaurants, shops, cafés) give it a lively atmosphere, especially in the evening.
Great for strolling, people-watching, a drink or meal with a view, and capturing some of the best photos of Nerja.
Burriana is the largest & most equipped beach in Nerja: fine golden sand, clear water, promenade, bars/restaurants, ideal for a relaxed beach-day or holiday vibe.
For those seeking more natural or secluded scenes, there are smaller coves and beaches around, some nestling under cliffs, giving a different, more peaceful coastal experience.
Great if you want a mix: swim, sun-bath, water sports, and easy access to amenities.
Several villages in the province of Malaga are among the most beautiful in Spain. Well, one of them is undoubtedly Frigiliana (Nerja), especially the Moorish core that is made up of narrow streets, passages and even passages that allows you to step on the same ground as the ancient Moors.
At the top of the hill where the urban complex is located, you will find an impressive panoramic view of the valley and the coast.
– The parish church of San Antonio 1676
– The palace of the Counts of Frigiliana, which was later converted into a sugar factory.
– El Fuerte, from Roman times and later, and the so-called Castillo de Lizar, you will find glazed ceramic mosaics that tell the story of the rebellion of the Moors in this town.
